I am my most authentic when in my studio. My deep yearning for connection—to my own self and to others—is most directly accessed and expressed through painting. It is essential to who I am.
Although my education was focused on the visual arts, my creative life also included a career as an actor and singer. I lived in New York for twenty years and performed in venues from Broadway to Lincoln Center to the avant-garde scene of the East Village. During this time, I continued to study art and exhibit in New York. For me, both art and theater are ways of telling a personal story, whether that is through words and music or color and form.
Some years ago, painting emerged as my singular creative passion, and I returned to its pursuit full time.
For many years, I painted abstract landscapes. More recently I have turned my attention to pure abstraction.
Abstract painting allows me to wander beyond the confines of representation and enter a creative space where yearning, resilience, and joy speak more directly than they could in my previous work. Painting is a spiritual discipline for me, and this more open and intuitive form of practice taps into that inner exploration. It allows me to access a deeper honesty and rawness in my work. For me, this shift feels more like a return than a departure; a centering; a way of telling a story that can’t be put into words.
